Riviera celebrates the 5400 Sport Yacht number 100
Australia’s largest luxury motor yacht builder Riviera has achieved a further milestone with its popular Sport Yacht Platinum Edition collection following the delivery of number 100 of the 5400 Sport Yacht to a new owner in New Zealand.
2020 has been another year of achievement for the company as it celebrates 40 years of evolution.
Riviera owner Rodney Longhurst describes this latest milestone as a very proud moment for the entire Riviera team.
“While the launching of this yacht honours the continued refinements made by our team, to have built 100 of the 5400 and more than 100 of the 6000 Sport Yacht models affirms their global popularity and our dedication to creating world-class luxury motor yachts,” said Mr Longhurst.
“Riviera Sport Yachts are enjoyed by owners the world over for their sports pedigree, performance, pure luxury, their flowing indoor-outdoor spaces and features such as tender garages, wide side decks and covered cockpits.”
Number 100 of the Riviera 5400 Sport Yacht Platinum Edition has been delivered to a new owner in New Zealand by dealer representative R Marine Flagship in Auckland.
Riviera the first choice
The 5400 is the new owner’s second Riviera after moving from a Riviera 4000 Offshore which he had owned for 14 years. While he appreciates the milestone of the 100th 5400 for Riviera, he says the sentimentality of the hull number was not nearly as significant compared to what the motor yacht has to offer.
“The reality is I didn’t want to look at anything else other than a Riviera,” he said.
“I already had a Riviera and that’s what I was planning to purchase again. I chose the 5400 Sport Yacht because I like a single-level style of boat. I definitely wanted a social motor yacht, an entertainer, and the 5400 ticked all the boxes for me, especially her size.
“That’s the beauty of the Riviera range because you can go in any direction and find something that suits you perfectly.”
The new owner describes the 5400 Sport Yacht as ideal for his love of cruising with friends and family, and sometimes escaping on his own.
“I don’t like fishing, but my mates do, so when we go out, I am usually in the galley making them breakfast or lunch. Then I just enjoy having a rest below.
“The 5400 is a boat that I can handle by myself. I have always owned multiple businesses and with my 4000 I’d often get up early in the morning on weekends, go out by myself, anchor out to relax and escape for a while and often enjoy a well-earned sleep. It’s easily the best sleep I’d have all week.”
Although it is a significant step up in size, the 5400 Sport Yacht is a breeze for solo cruising, he says, thanks to the technology aboard today’s Rivieras.
“The Volvo Penta IPS (Integrated Propulsion System) joystick controls of the 5400 have made my 30 years of boat handling knowledge obsolete. With relatively limited experience and tuition you can become an expert quite quickly and handle the boat with confidence.”
Cruising and entertaining appeal
Dean Horgan, dealer principal of R Marine Flagship, says Riviera’s Sport Yachts have plenty of appeal for cruising and entertaining on New Zealand waters.
“Riviera has a very strong following in New Zealand, and through this milestone for the 5400 Sport Yacht, we’re pleased to continue playing our part in the company’s proud history,” he said.
The latest Riviera Sport Yachts provide a level of refinement, finish and comfort that takes cruising and entertaining aboard to a new level.
The Riviera 5400 Sport Yacht Platinum Edition features the distinctive Riviera styling. Sleek lines raked entry and a superyacht-like radar arch begin to define the sporting pedigree and sophistication of this popular model.
The forward deck features an upholstered sun lounge and, in the cockpit, a sunroof adds versatility by sliding open at the touch of a button to bring in plenty of sunshine out of the wind. A large tender garage is accessed from the large boarding platform.
The entertainer’s cockpit with twin lounges, dining area and barbecue centre, flows through to the aft gourmet galley and spacious saloon via a large sliding glass door and awning window that opens out to form a large or very social environment.
Capturing the natural light
A second sunroof also can either bathe the saloon in natural light or capture cooling breezes. The sports-inspired centreline helm console provides excellent visibility and ergonomics. An L-shape lounge in the port forward quarter beside the helm offers guests a panoramic view.
Accommodation comprises either a three-stateroom and two-bathroom layout or an optional two-stateroom layout with lower lounge area. Owners enjoy a full-beam master stateroom, with a king-size bed in exceptional luxury. Hull windows and opening portlights add to the sense of connectivity with the outdoors.
The Riviera 5400 Sport Yacht boasts impressive fuel efficiency with quiet, smooth and exhilarating performance of over 34 knots from twin Volvo Penta D11 IPS 950 turbo diesel engines that deliver 725hp each.
Effortless control of the yacht when docking or in close quarters is provided by one of two joysticks located at the helm and in the cockpit. Onboard systems are centrally controlled through CZone digital switching system and touchscreen navigation through the Volvo Penta Glass Cockpit dash and integrated Garmin electronics.
As with all Riviera motor yachts, the 5400’s systems, drives, engines and electronics are covered by an industry-leading five-year Volvo Penta limited warranty, complementing Riviera’s structural seven-year limited warranty.
